We took our ugly basement room and turned in to our recreation room. When we bought our house a few years ago we wanted to get rid of the ugly basement room and make a room for all our Pittsburgh stuff. First we had to sand down the walls to get the texture off of them, We then put ship lap behind the bar area to cover the faux brick that was on the wall. We had to primer and paint the old wainscoting to a color we liked. Then patched the floor where the old tiles were coming up so we could install a new floor. After all of the patching was dry we installed our drop ceiling complete with new LED 6 inch wafer lights to brighten up the room. We then installed new 15 amp receptacles with new face plates as well. Then came the flooring, beautiful vinyl planking for the flooring looks great. We also made a nice window sill for around our window from some reclaimed wood we took from under the old platform that was under the gas heater the previous owner had in that room. We installed the chair rail after it was done drying and it looked great. Then it was time for the bar, 2x4 framing then birch for the facing and top with oak trim and oak Baltimore bar rail, dark walnut stain with 8 coats of polyurethane smooth as glass. Hung the TV and hooked everything up., hung all the decorations, Put our Smithereens autographed guitar on the wall and all well ok a small amount of our Pittsburgh items on the walls, if we put all of it up we would not have any wall space visible. we made shelves for some of our bobble heads out of hockey pucks that we had saved to add a different look to our room as well, along with cutting some to make coasters for our bar. All in all it came out very very nice, we are very happy we got rid of our ugly room and made something we will enjoy for years to come.
