Barn Doors

We absolutely love the rustic, industrial feel of barn doors. Luckily, we have the perfect opening for them! We went to a salvage wood shop in Petaluma and picked up some beautiful, old, redwood boards. We were going to try sanding them down to make sure we never got splinters, but after a test spot, we realized it took too much of the character away. So we filled in all of the major cracks with a mix of epoxy resin and coffee grounds to strengthen the boards and then doused them in polyurethane. It worked wonderfully and kept the look of the boards without taking any of the character from them. We got a flat track steel bar and the barn door wheels and screwed everything together. We also made a hidden track under the doors to prevent them from swinging outward. They work perfectly and are really one of the main focuses in the main room of the house. Everyone that walks in notices them first and absolutely loves them. We are so happy how they turned out!
The hours are not including waiting time for everything to dry...
