My wife wanted a deck to create more useable space around our pool. I chose to build it in an area that was sloping away from the pool and not very user friendly. I built it in two phases as I was doing it on a budget. The first phase was just large enough for a few of my homemade Adirondack chairs and a table. Once I finished the second phase, there is room for another table and some more furniture. I used pressure treated 2X6s on 16" spacing for the joists on top of pressure treated 4X4s on pier blocks with brackets. We chose to use gray Veranda composite deck boards for the surface.
