I was not aware of these contests until recently, so this project is actually a few months old. Our back door didn't open and even if it did the steps out were rediculously steep and poorly constructed. My wife and I decided that we needed to fix our problem by getting a new door and building a porch. After removing the door we realized there was extensive damage to siding as well as some subfloor do to poorly installed sliding door and cheap steps attached to the house. It turned out to be a much larger project than we had imagined. We ended up making a wrap around porch so that we had access to either the back or side door. I had to custom cut the stringes for the back steps because the slope was too steep for standard steps. But after many evenings and weekends it turned out fantastic. The back of the house has greatly improved in appearance.
