‹(•¿•)› 9 PICTURES INCLUDED ‹(•¿•)› It was time to replace my old water heater. I thought I could use the old tank to make a ‘ZEN BELL’. I needed something to set the mood for the 'ASIAN GARDEN'. Have you ever seen the prices of welding tanks turned into a ‘Zen Bell’. $$ (BIG BUCKS) $$. I am thrifty. To cut the tank I used my Ryobi reciprocating saw and metal cutting blade. I cut off the top 24 inches of the water tank. Recycling the rest of the water heater as scrap metal (giving me enough money to pay for the peeler poles) I purchased some peeler poles at Home Depot. I designed the structure to hold the
'ZEN BELL'.
After cutting, sanding, lag screws, washers and painting the poles, I planted the structure in front of the 'Sitting Pagoda' with a couple of bags of cement. I bought a few cans of rattle can primer and paint at Home Depot. Painted the Bell bright red, the color of RED in Chinese culture usually means 'GOOD LUCK' . Red is always associated with happiness and good fortune. Whatever seasons the 'ZEN BELL' stands out sunshine, rain or snow in the garden. I added the Chinese symbol for 'LOVE' then I used my Ryobi Cordless drill and 1/4 inch drill bit to out lined the symbol and I painted the symbol black. ‘ZEN BELLS’ had no clapper they were struck by different means for alarming people. I used leather to cover a cement ball on a wooden stick to strike the bell. When struck it has pretty good tone.
Thanks for looking, Zee
