Double Bench - Love Seat
My wife and I gathered the materials from downed trees in the woods behind our house in Alaska. Using rough cut yellow cedar I cut a seat approximately 18" by 5 ', using 3 slabs. We selected unique pieces of wood with turns and curves that suited our vision of arms, back and legs. Each piece was then stripped and allowed to age. Then, using a mortis and tenon, as well as a dremel to shape the pieces and ends, we connected the arms to the seat and to the back. We used dowel pins as well. ,Then, my wife asked why I hadn't put any drawers in. So - using glides I added them under the seat. We finished the bench with an equal mixture of mineral spirits and linseed oil. It has become a focal point in our house, with everyone pushing to get to sit on it first. Lots of fun making and lots of fun enjoying it every day now.
