I used a JobPlus with a flush cutting blade to remove the hard plastic covering. The maple inside was a mess (i guess that's why the pin had been retired). After a lot of gluing, sanding, drilling and cursing I decided to ditch my idea of making into a knife because i couldn't find a blade that would work with the dimensions I had. I dropped it while drilling the cavity for the grater so I had to add the cherry collar which proved to be the most difficult part of the project.
