Wilson-Osprey Nest Platform
HiDeHo My Fellow Americans I live on what was once a isolated island, which is now connected by a single road built on a sandbar. The island is Orient New York and I live on the Eastern most tip of the Eastern most tip of the North Fork on Long Island NY. The Island once covered with potato farms and was continously sprayed with DDT to control the potato betle. Spraying with DDT at the same time destroyed the Osprey population. DDT was baned, and in an effort to restore the Osprey population, nests are built to attract breeding pairs back to there natural enviroment. What I have built is a Osprey Nest Platform using plans by the N.J. Division of Fish, Game & Wildlife. All wood with the exception of the main pole is CCA pressure treated wood, washed up on the beaches from past storms. The main pole, approximatly 8" to 10" in diameter tree came down in Hurricane Irene, has been water proofed, with it's base wraped in tarred building paper, set in a hole (4) four feet deep, and set with (6) six bags of ready mix cement. Wilson, because if you had seen the movie Castaway with Tom Hanks you will see the similarity on the Fedex package. All Ryobi tools were used from the Drill, Saws to the Logsplitter, Blower for the cleanup.
