Mid Century Modern Coffee Table

While I have grown up doing woodworking projects in Michigan I hadn't built any furniture in quite some time. I recently had a new apartment and really wanted to decorate it with some mid century modern items. In searching for tables especially; I realized the cost for things I really wanted were to much so I decided to finally take the step to get back into woodworking.

I was inspired by numerous people on this project including Ana-white.com and retromenagerie.com but I wanted to actually build something out of real lumber. I realized in the design phase as well that I wanted to have some sort of accent wood to break up the Walnut. I purchased 2 3.5"W pieces of walnut and 1 1.5"W piece of wormy maple to make the project. The legs came from https://www.etsy.com/shop/hairpinlegs who makes amazing legs for an affordable price and happens to have his shop a few miles from my place.

I used many techniques for this that I had never tried including biscuit joinery, hand planing, and gluing up multiple pieces of hardwood.

I learned the importance of proper clamping during glue up as I had to spend several days planing and sanding to get my boards flat after.

The table is finished with Tung oil and several coats of poly to protect it from spills.

I used a Ryobi One + Circular Saw and ONE + Drill/Driver

Well I being a wood worker, think you did a heck of a nice job. For someone who has not experienced biscuit joinery, hand planing, and gluing up multiple pieces of hardwood, your first time makes me jealous. I wish I had had 1/2 your talent and all your resources.
