Living room fireplace
My husband designed and built this fireplace. We own a 1948 Cape Cod home that had a basic ugly red brick fireplace back and no mantel. He decided to update the fireplace and make it a beautiful focal point in our home. One of the challenges was re-facing the brick wall area with new tile. The brick was slightly uneven so he had to work very hard to get to the new tile surface even. One of my husband's signature design features is the arched wood plank. He hand cuts and routers each piece and creates a "tongue and groove" effect. The fireplace boasts spindle pillars at each end, boxed columns, and inset lighting. He stained and painted every piece of the fireplace, he installed the tile, and framed the fireplace opening. Custom trim finishes the fireplace. He has created many other pieces in our home. This is one of my favorites, in my opinion it rivals fireplaces that I have seen in newer homes. P.S. He also designed and made the mantel clock also in the picture.
