Wall Mounted Bar

I wanted to give my sister and her fiance a present for their engagement and their recent move across the country. She had mentioned to me in the past her lack of alcohol storage so I knew I wanted to make a bar for her that mounted to the wall to take up less precious floor space in their new apartment.

My first challenge came when picking up my materials. I hadn't realized how heavy the final piece was going to be using wood I had originally intended on. With thinner plywood, I had the added challenge of attaching all my pieces together with strong enough connections to hold a lot of glass products. I ended up using a pocket hole jig and my Ryobi Cordless drill to get all the pieces attached together.

I had made some templates for myself using a CAD program and found them to be extremely helpful when cutting out all the odd shapes. The wine glass storage was a bit tricky, but I ended up using an Ikea trivet which I cut down to the correct size with my jig saw fitted with a metal cutting blade.

To assemble everything at perfect right angles I used some 2x4's as blocking and my Ryobi cordless nailer to temporarily hold each piece in place before I could attach with screws. This sped up my process immensely and I will definitely be using this strategy in the future.

To finish, I filled all my pocket holes with wood filler. Once dry I went over everything with sandpaper, and then spray painted. I did two coats with sanding between coats for a better overall finish.

My sister has installed it in her apartment and loves it! I am so glad I was able to do this for her.
