I had some extra pallet wood leftover. If you've never taken apart a pallet by hand with a hammer - it's quite a bit of work. I was determined to use my leftover pieces to make something. I was not able to find a plan that met my needs based on the pieces of wood I had to work with. I also did not want to have to buy any extra wood, so this was very important. It took me a while to come up with a "plan" as this was only my second project. I had picked up an outdoor bench cushion on sale several months ago and I also needed by bench to fit this cushion, so I began working. I realized I didn't have anything to put on the back slats, so I decided to do an open bench. My back two legs were longer than the front, so I built accordingly and thought about making an armrest on the ends so. I left them uncut until I made my decision. To my surprise, I had a couple left over pieces that fit just inside the space between my arm rest and the back legs, allowing me to tack back pieces that would have been too short. This "design" allowed for me to use my pieces I already had while also providing a reclining bench perfect for those lazy days. I decided not to attach the back, so it is removebale and is working out great!
