Backyard Deck and Covered Patio

I built the majority of our backyard deck and covered patio over the period of two weeks and then about another week or two for the finishing touches. My wife helped me lift the beam and post structure and spiral staircase pole, other than that, it was done on my own, mostly because I couldn't pay the for the quotes that I got for somebody else to do it. I learned a lot on-line as to how to properly build a deck, and most importantly, to do it in a manner so that it was safe and to code. I also wanted to make it as maintenance free as possible, and to be able to use the space under the deck as a patio. I found interlocking aluminum decking that was seamless, waterproof and powder coated to meet this requirement. I added a spiral staircase to allow us to access the deck from our patio, so that we didn't have to only go through our bedroom upstairs. It was a lot of hard work, but as most people who do it on their own know, one of the most satisfying projects I have done to date.
