Cabin kitchen transformation
A rustic mid-century modern cabin in Idaho desperately needed an upgrade. The electrical, plumbing, and layout all needed drastic improvements. We gutted the kitchen and replaced all electrical and plumbing. The dividing wall separating the kitchen from the living room was removed to achieve an open floor plan. This also allowed for creating an island with cool hanging barstools. The beams were exposed and painted to add to the cabin charm. The layout of the kitchen changed to accommodate new stainless steel appliances. We had to overcome some dilemmas on how to get electrical to the light fixtures, as there is no attic space. Some creative use of cordless circulating saw and router enabled us to hide electric wires in one of the beams and cover with angle iron. Once painted, they disappeared. The kitchen is now functional, retro and updated at the same time.
