1960s Glassmaster Speedboat Restoration

  • May 21, 2018

In the mid-1960s my dad bought a Glassmaster* speedboat from his coworker. We got a lot of use from it in the 80s but the boat fell into disrepair after my dad became ill and was submerged for a few years in the early 2000s.

My dad has talked about wanting to see the boat restored for years and this year I finally started with his support and supervision.

The first step was to remove the thick layers of sediment from the deck area to see if the hull was in tact. Fortunately it was, along with the original fiberglass ribs. I'm now reconstructing the deck on top of those ribs, with body work to follow.

*(Glassmaster is a local boat maker from our Lexington, SC hometown.)
