Steam Bent Wood Project - Retro Guitar Amp
I've made a few small practice guitar amps, and I'd been wanting to do one in the Mid Century Modern style - that "Mad Men" retro look. I also really wanted to utilize steam bent wood on this project, so I built a steam box and experimented with a few different methods of bending. It's a small 10 watt practice amp, but it's actually plenty loud.
Well done, John! Keep on rockin'!
That's pretty cool man!
how did you make steam box
CBISHOP5546 - There are a hundred ways to build a steam box, and most of them are right. I built mine out of scrap wood I had lying about, but I've seen them made with PVC sewer pipe as well. Basically, you want something that is big enough to hold whatever wood you're steaming, and don't forget a vent hole so it doesn't build pressure. (Steam + pressure = BOOM) Rockler has a great little kit you can buy that has everything you need. Check out Laney Shaughnessy's video on how to build it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMvc2tuVGcQ - it's a good general how to whether you buy a kit or do it yourself.

Nice work John! I've been looking into building one and can't find any Amp kit that you co nat have to build from scratch. Where did you get yours (or is it from an old amp). Also what wood did you use on yours? Very nice work!
