Space Saving End Table
We had limited space for a full end table at the end of our sofa due to a doorway. I created a drop leaf table that can be flipped up for drinks or plates as needed and flipped down when not in use. It only has two legs but is fastened to the bottom of the sofa using screw inserts and two machine bolts.
Worked great for our family at Christmas this year.
Thanks. Has worked out well.
That is awesome!! I hope you win!
Are there plans for your projects? I would love to build this!!!
Have you any plans drafted for this project? It is a great build and I would like to make something similar...
Do you have the instructions for these? I could use use a couple.
Would love the plans for this!!
Cool. Trying this for sure.
I'm sorry but I didn't generate any plans other than my own hand-drawn sketches and measurements for my sofa. I guess I could make some up but don't know how I'd post them for user access. The hardest part were the slats. They would normally be a mortise and tenon but I don't have a mortising tool so I simply slotted the upper and lower rails with a 1/4" slot and then made tenons on the ends of the vertical slats. I then cut 1/4" x 1/4" by whatever length of oak and then cut small sections off to space the slats evenly and then glued in the 1/4" x 1/4" sections between the slats and used a detailed sander to make them essentially invisible. I also determined the width between the legs so that the arms that extended under the sofa would hit a solid wood member and I then anchored the table to the sofa to these solid wood members. The supports for the table when it folds down fit cozily into a recessed area under the table. I used an aluminum tube in the supports that I fit into the support and then used a dowel in the tube that the arms swing on.
