Backyard Shed with Porch
We really needed to replace our old backyard shed with a much larger one. We also needed a place to display some of our general store type antiques. I decided to combine the two and create a large shed with a relaxing general store front/porch.
The shed is 20 by 14 ft. and the porch is 6 by 20 ft. The exterior is primarily Cement board, and constructed for minimum maintenance. It took me a full year to complete on weekends, when available. We've only just begun decorating it.
What a relaxing place to sit in the evening, especially during a rain storm with the tin porch roof.
This is truly amazing! I was looking to build a shed, and I think I just found my inspiration! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Mike44G and you're welcome. As for me, it took me about 6 months to visualize a final plan that was exciting enough to inspire me to get started. The last hurdle was getting my wife's buy in (or should I say "authorization" LOL). Once she pushed me to get started, it was exciting all the way to the end. Good luck.
NOW that's a bad boy shed !! Love the theme and I,m gonna have to build on like it themed on an old time fixit shop store. Love to have customers come to see arcade and pinball games I custom restore in a shed like that as my shop and showroom !! Thanks for the idea Big "G"
We love this!! Thanks for sharing!
Have you drawn up plans and specs on your shed ? It would be a great help. Yopu should send pics to Popular Mechanics, I,m a subscriber and they may choose it to be featured in their mag. one month.
Thanks for all of your nice comments. I am very pleased with how it turned out and am really looking forward to decorating it. I do not have drawn up plans, but I have detail sketches I drew of critical parts, like the pier spacing, floor joist layout, Facade dimensions, material costs, etc. I also have over 200 pics showing various details. There are numerous features that cannot be seen, like a rack under the shed for my extension ladder, 4 ft rear overhang, passive ventilation details, portable ramps to fit over the 1" pipe at the roll up door (I used aluminum scaffold boards), etc. I am more than willing to share but would need a way to make contact. I will check into the Popular mechanics suggestion. Thanks.
Thinking outside the box. AWESOME shed. Plans? This would be a high plan seller, and modifications with different themes an add-on delite.
i had to give you one of my votes. iv had a similar idea in my head for a wood shop, but i havent had the time to build it. grear job!
Awesome job!! I could see that in my own backyard as a Old West Bar/Wood shop!! My wife and I have a 10x14 workshop out back now, but want to add another, larger, building for additional shop space. Woodworking, Lampwork, Ceramics would all benefit from this kind of space. Thanks for the inspiration.
