    • Very handsome. Im curious as to why you used fence wood instead of thicker cedar planks?
By Carol Ta, on June 6, 2016
      • Thanks! There were a few reasons. They are cheap, light and worked with the design. After having the first failed attempt at a top i wanted something I could space yet still make sturdy. These were thin enough that I could make the criss cross pattern that I thought would allow for board movement yet make it solid when having 2 layers. The only downfall is they took a lot of sanding. The ryobi belt sander made it pretty painless though.

    • Nice! Like the rustic look. How is it hinged? How did you get around expensive Murphy bed hardware?
By DIY Russ, on June 29, 2014

    • I just used three door hinges. It doesn't sound like much but works fine. It is heavy letting it down and putting it back up with all the wood facing, but not really an issue.

    • Did you happen to sketch up sent plans for the bed or did you wing it. Very nice and I like the rustic look.

    • I got the inspiration for it from some plans on Ana White's site (http://ana-white.com/2010/03/plans-a-murphy-bed-you-can-build-and-afford-to-build.html) but just winged it from there. Making an adjustment for the differences in a standard twin vs. standard queen seemed to work well for me.

    • Am I not seeing the adjustment you made for the queen> I saw Anna Whites Plan and she had all the measurements but I am not seeing yours...help! I too want to make a queen.
