Your friends will love them. One thing I would recommend doing that I didn't do, is to use a router and make a juice grove about an inch from the edges. That way the juice from tomatoes and such don't run off onto the counters.
Thanks! My wife has been bragging about it at work all week. It was kind of a rush job seeing as I've got behind on her buffet I've been working on. Just waiting on some parts for my ryobi bandsaw so I can get back to work on it.
It is based off of a few different designs I've seen over the net, but mission furniture is basically the same construction methods. I just made the design to appeal to my tastes and the dimensions for a comfortable height to prop my feet up on after a long day of working then woodworking.
And it truly is an easy build. I only needed to use my ryobi bts10 table saw drill press and hand drill to do most of the work. Then used chisels and files to fine tune the mortise and tenon joints. Glue up is simple and oak dowels are drill through the through tenons for extra support.
