    1. Step: 1

      Large 4544f91c dd2b 482c 9896 39575bdf2343

Start by cutting your 1x6 board. Make 4 cuts at 23.5” each using a miter saw.

    2. Step: 2

      Large e7648db1 74dd 4d6d 8032 5fc7fcfd9c0d

Use your drill with a hole saw attachment to make 4 holes through one of the 23.5” boards. I spaced mine evenly about every 4.75”.

    3. Step: 3

      Large 13d2ed7c 830c 4d9b b5ad a2c1eac95c75

Once your holes are cut, use a sander to smooth the edges a bit.

    4. Step: 4

      Large 2dc07818 c7aa 4ee6 a9dd 6a013dcfa8a5

Now it’s time to attach all of your boards. Use wood glue between each board, and stack the 3 boards without holes first. Hold the boards in place using the brad nailer with 1.25” brad nails.

    5. Step: 5

      Large 91765836 3316 4520 ac28 1f07ac35c617

Stack the board with holes last. Use wood glue on the bottom of this board before attaching it to your other 3 boards and nail in place using the brad nailer.

    6. Step: 6

      Large 0c0332f9 c9bd 4f1d bf10 283190505559

Now finish the block using your choice of paint or wood stain. I chose to stain mine, and once it was dry I used the sander to distress the finish a bit. Attach a metal pull to each each using your drill.

    7. Step: 7

      Large 187e52cd c428 47d4 8eee 018f0b86356f

Fill small glass votives with candles and you have a perfect centerpiece!

  • I am going to try to make these this week. I'd like to make 3-4 as Gifts for people at Christmas.
By Mike Mercer, on November 16, 2015

  • I was able to make 6 of these; and they're going to make great Christmas Presents this year. I used 1x4's, instead of 1x6's, and I only used 3 instead of 4. I then added candles from the local Dollar Store. ( The candles were in small glass votives, like yours ). I also managed to get some great handles in the Hardware section of the local Dollar Store as well, to complete this project. Thanks again for the great inspiration, on such an easy-to-do project!

  • What size hole was drilled out for the votives? The direction's don't say.
    By cbstrother_130147, on November 23, 2015

  • Buy the votives you want to use and drill them according to the diameter. Some are bigger than others and depending on the size of your table you may want to make it longer.

  • 18V Portable band saw would sure be a game changer!

  • Super easy and decorative. Great father son project. Multiple family members have requested one
