  1. Project Steps

    1. Step: 1

      Large 8e334eda a958 4900 89c5 4e448e8f912b

First, build 4 leg assemblies. Attach the 1x4 boards to the 1x3 boards using wood glue and 1.25” brad nails. You will make 4 identical assemblies.

    2. Step: 2

      Large 43f85acc 4905 4fef 82d3 4f8a5b7931c3

Next, build the two shelf assemblies. Attach the longer boards to the shorter boards with wood glue and 1.25” brad nails. These will be identical in size.

    3. Step: 3

      Large d668d412 48dd 4f55 8193 a383d449e359

Attach the first shelf assembly to all 4 leg assemblies. These will line up flush with the ends of each leg. Attach them using wood glue and nails through the inside of the shelf boards and into each leg.

    4. Step: 4

      Large 691087c2 a27f 4016 8df5 c7d2c27c9b7b

Now attach the other shelf assembly to the top of the legs. This will also be flush with the ends of the legs. Attach them using wood glue and 1.25” brad nails through the shelf frame and into each leg.

    5. Step: 5

      Large 58b62bce 7b5b 4692 bad5 bf8130afbdbe

Attach the shelf boards next. These are 1x4 boards that are spaced 7/16” apart. Attach each board to the top of the shelf frame using wood glue and 1.25” brad nails.

    6. Step: 6

      Large f8dbc12f 600a 4217 a1ea 24a42fa018f6

Attach the decorative diagonal pieces next. The easiest way to get these cuts perfect is to lay them in place and mark your cuts with a pencil. Then, adjust your miter saw to make that exact cut. Attach the boards using wood glue and 1.25” brad nails.

    7. Step: 7

      Large ebac56f5 6b67 4cc7 be19 fdf611d861b8

Cut and attach the foot pads next. These will give you a surface to attach the casters to. Attach each foot pad using wood glue and nails. Before adding the top, take this base and add the finish if you plan to have a different finish on the top like I did. I painted mine with black chalk finish paint. After it dried, I used the orbital sander with a medium grit paper to distress and rub off the paint to give it an antique look.

    8. Step: 8

      Large 3ae1342b 84cf 41ae 9613 9916b5a6c4f2

Final step is adding the top! The plans call for a laminated project panel. If you have trouble finding a panel, you can also use 1x8 boards like I did. Attach the top using wood glue and nails through the top and into the frame of the top. If you are using 1x8 boards, you may also want to run a few support boards in between the frame to help attach the top and keep the boards from warping. Then, use a sander with a fine grit paper to sand the top smooth before staining or painting.

  • On the PDF, on step 8 you are going to show us how to use 1x8 boards on the next page. There is no next page.
