Hi Ana! Love this sectional. We are going to make it and sew our own cushions. What size are your back cushions? Trying to figure out the ideal height of the back cushions. Was thinking maybe 15" high. What do you think would be ideal?

After building this project, I've noticed the following points: There is one piece of wood missing from the cut list. I had a couple of extra 2x4's so wasn't that put out by it, but others may be affected. This plan is designed to coordinate with the Outdoor Sofa, but the plans are subtly different - the Outdoor Sofa does not have the back supports included (the wood that is placed on edge under the two arm rests and back), so if building both pieces, you'll want to allow for the extra stock necessary to include those three extra pieces. In order to build both pieces, I purchased thirty 8' 2x4's, knowing that I would have lots of offcuts remaining. I intend to use these offcuts to build a coffee table/footrest that will accommodate the last seat cushion (since I purchased seven 2pc cushions to fill in all the sections of back rest), and also frame a water table for my child. I purchased these: http://www.lowes.ca/outdoor-cushions/garden-treasures-blue-flame-stitch-2-piece-deep-seating-patio-chair-cushion_g2384797.html

It looks very nice but what would make it better is if all exposed edges were rounded over with a router and the back had an angle to it. Yours looks nice and comfortable.

How do you prevent it from rotting, termite... and other damages might be caused by weather and bugs since it stays outside?
By

You can make this entire project using 2x4x8 if you make it exactly 2 inches smaller from front to back, which only makes 2 differences in cuts, instead of 25 1/2 they become 23 1/2, and instead of 28 1/2, they become 26 1/2, everything else remains the same, but you can use exclusively 2x4x8's with a total quantity of (21) 8 footers! Cuts the cost nearly in half and allows for more choices for straighter and more perfect boards. In case this helps anyone!

@bamawaterfowl I spent about $1300, all of the materials came from Home Depot.

The materials list doesn't specify, but is the lumber pressure treated? Or are you relying on the paint to withstand the weather? If so, how's your current play structure holding up? Also, it looks awesome! Great job!

Help me out here...I am not seeing where all 11 4x4s will be used? I am only counting 6. I am having my fence put in and was hoping to have them actually set the posts into the ground to make it extra sturdy. Is that overkill?

Does anyone know the height of the entire set? Ground to peak. Trying to find a set that is 10ft tall or less because of a crazy HOA rule.

Thanks for sharing the design, I am putting the finishing touches on one in my back yard. I had one lesson learned to add and a couple of mods that went well. For the lesson learned, be mindful of your carriage bolt placement. A few steps after making the frame you will need to install the floor. Four of my bolts partially interfered with the floor boards, I ended up notching the floor boards. Other than that, you can add an additional 2X4 to the floor, it helps keep rain out of the bottom. At the kids request, I added a floor to the bottom and enclosed the rear of the structure with a wall. Finally, I opted for a corrugated metal roof.
