Woodshop Bar

This started out as bar napkin sketch and a "someday" dream. One afternoon, bored in the shop, I packed up and headed off to browse the aisles of the home improvement store. Needless to say I came home with a car load of Red Oak and off I went. The project of the 'woodshop bar' was underway. Despite my urge to heat right for the table saw, I spent hours in front of my computer translating my bar napkin sketch into my CAD software for a bit of refinement. Here's the result ... though always a work in process as I'm always adding new stuff.

Made from Red Oak ply and hardwood, my 8'+ long garage bar features a laminated sit/standing counter, lower workstation counter, two cabinets complete with glass doors, 3 pull out drawers and 1 pull out cutting/work surface. The two interior cabinets also feature pocket holes for adjustable shelving. All screws were done with a mix of Kreg pocket hole jig & Ryobi Countersinks and capped with matching Red Oak plugs that I cut in the shop with a Ryobi Plug Cutter. The front of the bar was finished in AirStone and offset with the striking wave pattern backsplash material. Further refinements in works will include under cabinet LED lighting and final hanging of a metal crafting project I recently completed. This project is finished off with many coats of semi-gloss Lacquer.

Images include a brief, start to finish (or near finished) timeline. Is a project REALLY ever finished??? Not in my eyes!

This project couldn’t have become reality without my 18v Ryobi tool assortment; drills, drivers, plug cutters, countersinks, flashlight, disc sander, finish sander, fan, belt sander, caulking gun, jig saw and rotary saw!
