Master Bedroom

It all started with our two little ones reaching the age were they needed their own bedrooms. Being that we have a two bedroom house, the only option was to renovate the attic into a master bedroom. The house was built in the 1940's by my wife's grandfather long before most of todays building codes. That being said, there was much work to do. Everything from the electrical to the painting, was done by myself and some help from my father-in-law. First I addressed exsisting floor boards or lack there of, and covered them with half inch ply. Then I did all of the rough framing, which included knee walls, closet niches, storage access ways, collar ties, and boxing in the chimmney. From there it was on to the electrical which went fairly smooth, thanks to my father-in-law being a retired electrician. Next the insulation was installed, not my favorite job but necessary. Moving on I demoed the existing stairs, then cut and installed new stringers and treads. Before the drywall went up I fabricated filler pieces and sills for the windows we installed. After the drywall was hung, mudded, and painted I wrapped the chimmney, capped and trimmed out the knee wall and column atop the stairs, trimmed all closets, access ways and windows, as well as installed the base board. Lastly, I installed all of the finishing touches, lighting, base board heaters, outlet covers, curtain rods etc... The new room is fantastic, our own little "secret get away" in the house from the kids and pets. Oh, did I mention that upon completion of the new bedroom, my wife suprised me by telling me she's "PREGNANT!" Looks like there'll be no down time before the next project starts. I can't wait!
