Floating Shelves

I shopped and shopped for some decent floating shelves but had no luck so decided to build one myself. Bought the wood precut at Home Depot (yes no cutting at all for this project)
The only tool I used is just the ryobi 1 18v drill.

So what exactly did you do to attach them - looks like you notched a groove almost the length of the lumber - mounted a smaller strip to the wall and then slide the gooved board over the top?

each floating shelf takes 2 of the 1" x 6"x8' stain grade pine, 1 of the 2"x2"x8'. 1 of the 1"x2"x8' stain grade pine all at 8 feet long. First I sandwiched the 1x2 between the 1x6 boards on the front side and screwed them together, Then i cut 2 short pieces (roughly 5 inches ea) from the 2x2 to use to fill in each edge. Then i took the remaining length of the 2x2 and anchored it to the wall (be sure to find studs and use a level) Finally, slide the shelf unit onto the 2x2 anchor strip and drive a few screws from the bottom to attach the shelf to the strip. the wood is all pre cut and available at home depot and the total cost per shelf is less than 40 dollars, or you can do it out of a lower grade wood for less than 20.. the only pieces i had to cut were the filler pieces for the sides of the shelf. the tools i used were the ryobi battery powered drill and a hand saw. *it helps if you pre drill the screw holes
