"L" Shaped Desk for my wifes office

This is an “L” shaped desk (Pictures attached) that I designed and built for my wife. I completed the desk in Dec/2011.

I used ¾’ Red Oak Plywood throughout the entire project except for the drawers which were constructed with ½” Birch Plywood. The edging was made with Red Oak Floor Molding which I purchased from Habitat for Humanity for $2.00 each and cut them to spec.

The 2 Tops (30 x 60 and 20 x 48) are supported by modular pedestals which are 15 ½” wide, and has “3” 13” wide inset drawers, including 2 hanging file drawer. It also has a 12” wide pedestal with 3 sliding Acrylic shelves. The 2 pedestals on the narrow top are connected by a sliding Red Oak shelf to house a printer. The 2 tops are attached to the modular pedestals using “S” shaped desk connectors.

I used Watco Danish Oil (Dark Walnut) for the stain and after 2 drying days I used the same Oil with the “slurry” system to smooth the finish. I finished the desk with General Finished “Arm & Seal” wipe-on varnish. All of the material was purchased from Home Depot, Rockler, and Woodcraft.
