Barn Door Closet Doors

This next project was inspired by barn doors. We didn’t want to spend $500-$1000 to have some sweet closet doors, so my husband decided to take on the project of making his own version of barn doors. We acquired too many pallets and started making projects out of the free wood. Troy took a couple pallets apart, measured the width and length of the mirrored closet doors and started piecing the barn doors together.

He decided to use the mirrored closet doors as a base to this project. He turned the doors around so that the mirror is actually facing inside the closet and used the backing as his canvas to place the boards on. He used caulk to adhere the boards to the doors and then we used steel wool and vinegar to make the wood look more aged. Lastly, we placed the doors back on the tracks.

Piecing the boards to the door and allowing them to dry over night

We had to make sure before hand that there would be enough room so that the closet doors didn’t hit each other when moved from one side to the other. They fit perfect, snug, no room to spare. This project was free because we had a plethora of pallets and the caulk.
