Compact folding fabric cutting table

My wife, Julie took up sewing and quilting about a year ago. She has back issues and found that it was straining her back to cut fabric on desk height surfaces like her sewing table. She wanted a cutting table that would be 35” high and folding because of her limited space in her sewing room. I found a folding sewing table pattern on the internet and modified it so it was higher and the surface would be larger (36”x60”). I have never taken on a project like this before but now woodworking is addictive.

I had some good tips watching and assisting my Dad as a kid work on project projects. But I also turned to the internet and unfortunately some trial and error as I tackled this project. I also took another tip from my Dad. That tip was he always seems to get a tool or two out of the deal when my Mom needed a project created (although I do not know if he consciously realized that was what he did). My circular saw had seen better days so I got a new Ryobi circular saw with a laser.

Because of my modifications, I had to create detailed plans so I knew how many sheets of cabinet grade plywood I would need. The original plan only used one and I figured I would need two. Also the original plan used 1”x2” legs on the folding leaves and regular hinges. I decided to use 2”x2” legs and found great leg hinges that locked the legs when in the closed and open position. The larger size gave her larger storage spaces in the middle main section. I also added four locking casters on the main section for stability. She is thrilled.
