Can-dolin Instrument

My daughter had to create a musical instrument for a project at school. This is the second prototype and sounds great. It is three strings and uses the hardware from an old electric guitar I had sitting around. The strings run through the can and it makes a nice loud almost resonator guitar sound. Loads of fun and easy to build.

That is awesome. What did you use to connect the strings to the can?

To connect the strings to the can, I simply drilled some holes in a scrap piece of oak, ran the strings through the holes (the ferrules o n the end of the strings keep them from pulling through) and then through holes in the can. Make the in the can large to keep the vibrating strings from hitting any metal. You'll know if it is hitting metal because it sounds terrible. I'll try to post more pics if folks are interested.

Looks like I can't add more pics. If anyone wants to see more, I can email you separately. Just let me know your address.
